a pinterest christmas

So much to blog about, so much to be thankful for, so running behind to get to the new years eve "party" of football, steaks, {pinning}, and hopefully staying awake until midnight!

Wanted to share some of my Christmas pins I completed!  BABs says "Pinterest is fantasy football for girls."  Much is true about that statement!  I wanted to make it a reality this season!  Sharing my "accomplishments!"  Will be back next year with blessings, updates, and resolutions :)

Thanks for being almost over 2011!!

the 13 years of "christmas dinner"

"About" 13 years ago there were some college kids that decided to start a little tradition.  Everyone cooked something yummy and brought it back to Athens for a break from the family on Christmas "break."  At that time we were lucky to have enough plates and forks for half of the guests… we had more beer than food… and there was definitely creative seating for everyone!  We have certainly matured, found new recipes, and GROWN in size!  Happy thirteenth Christmas Dinner ya'll.  Here is a look back.  I am missing a few years… {2006 and 2009}… if anyone has some shoot me an email and I will complete the collage!

seventy seven & one hundred

it's hard to believe it was just 77 days ago that our world turned upside down!  yesterday marked a milestone!  we finished the third treatment of "round-up."  mom has been nothing less than a complete ROCKSTAR.  i am so incredibly proud and amazed by how my parents have dealt with all of this!  i could not be more blessed.

we celebrated yesterday by watching "the Help."
mom and i were going to see this movie opening weekend back in august…  she called me on that tuesday night and said "i don't think i can go to the movies this weekend because my back hurts too much to sit up for 2 hours…"  little did we know then what that really meant.  so i thought it would be a wonderful early Christmas present!
it was not NEAR as good as the book… and mom and i chatted, and made dinner, and looked at jewelry, and gave about 50% of our attention to the movie!  {and now i can tell BABs where i get my "i can't sit still for a movie" from}
it was a favorite favorite favorite Wednesday if you ask me!

in 100 days my world will change again!  ...and my last name!
i am looking forward to it more than ever.  each day "something" gets checked off {or gets closer to being checked off} the "to do" list
our 2 to 1 mentors have been amazing tools to show us that this day is SOOOO much more than flowers, favors, and signature drinks!
it is seriously impossible to think i could barely breath ~75 days ago
and now our wedding day will be here before we know it!

a couple quickies…
this cute little man made his appearance to the world VERY early yesterday
Cole Alexander Williams, born at 2:16 am, 8 lb 3 oz, 19.5 in long
i can not wait to kiss his little cheeks and hug his momma's neck

and please lift up my aunt and uncle carol and buddy.  last weekend {after the SEC game} uncle Bud got an emergency helicopter ride to pensacola when they found a baseball size aneurysm in his belly AFTER a dislocated shoulder!  all are well now but seriously… can we have a teensy little break!
these will be some of the most blessed holidays EVER!

like it, pin it, do it, blog it: christmas!

hello… my name is Kim, and i am addicted to pinterest.
a friend of mine has the SAME "problem" except she started actually executing her pins and blogging about them.
so why re-invent the wheel?
{isn't that the nice way of saying "i'm copying"?}

as promised though…. the christmas decor post!

so my house is ALWAYS freezing, my thermostat says 73 {liar}, my fireplace-starter-lighter is dead, and i have no long matches.  i was cold and wanted to build a fire…

THE PIN

SPAGHETTI!!!  VOILA!

i have so many pins on my "holiday cheer" board that it really motivated me to put them in action!

if you have ever been to my house the week after easter, or 2 weeks in to spring, you will find that the beautiful flowers my MIL-2-B usually brings me are nothing more than a pot of dirt!
this pin allowed me to do "something" with the pot of dirt that:
 a.) won't die {again}
b.) is simple and not expensive
c.) is CHRISTMAS-Y

THE PIN

THE STARTING POINT
yup… that is my year round pot of dirt!!

THE FINAL PRODUCT
{surprisingly the pine cones smell like cinnamon too}

that is all i have for {completed} pins right now… but i do want to show off the rest of the holiday decor!

this is my pretty little {pre-lit} tree!
one of my favorite christmas presents ever.  {back story: i had to work CHRISTMAS DAY during my residency 5 years ago.  my mom came over to Augusta a few weeks before and "gave" me christmas decorations for christmas… sad times when you are out of town and working on christmas day.  but it was really really one of the best.gifts.ever}
i was raised with REAL trees but on the one hand i can count the # of times i have seen my parents "argue," 3 of those times were probably over stringing lights on a christmas tree!  its pre-lit for me all the way!  {that is what pine "flavored" candles are for}
i made this in kindergarten
beautiful stained glass cross.
the absolute most FAVORITE ornament i have
the cutest UGA christmas ornament
i gave to BAB's on "our" first christmas

my pharmacy school roommate made this about
10 years ago out of birth control pill boxes!
she was/is so crafty

i bought this nativity in Haiti on a mission trip.
its a coconut and little clay people!  i wish i bought 50 of them for gifts!

the mantle.  i am starting to accumulate some of my mom's santa collection on the left!
"won/stole" the big pink ball at last years' "Girls' Dinner Christmas Ornament Fight Exchange"

99% sure i got those little reindeer beanies out of a happy meal 25 years ago!

speaking of 25 years ago and never throwing away christmas stuff…
part of my christmas decorations present 5 years ago was the box of all our childhood ornamanents.  i use several still {walnut/strawberry} but most don't really "go" with the tree now.
some of these little wooden goodies are older than i am
who can throw away a 30 year old rocking horse ornament!?

I got this idea all on my own!
No Pin Needed
plain wreath + hot glue gun
+ 30 year old christmas ornaments
= sentimental christmas wreath!
 the cinnamon-y smelling entrance!

don't forget to keep your Bailey's warm in a sweater

Exciting week ahead!
last round of "round-up" on WEDNESDAY (#3)!!
i am taking the day away from the office to run the jasmine cab {and MAYBE get a hair or two trimmed myself}.  i also have a surprise for mom… which will be our favorite thing on top of PICC line removal and so much to be THANKFUL for!!

Merry Christmas!

the BIG easy

this week i have been in New Orleans for the largest pharmacy meeting of the year.
18,000 of us have taken over the city.
it is an eye opening experience i have the pleasure of being a part of about every 3 years.
a time of reflection on my professional accomplishments, while at the same time my clinical inadequacies are nothing less than obvious!  i am seeing former students i have precepted with more letters after their name than i could imagine, working their way up the ladder to coordinators and directors.  for about 3 days  it sounds like a good idea to come home, dive in to some research, publish something, and sign up for a marathon of certification tests… i will be happy when monday rolls around and those thoughts have passed.

i am having a fun time though!  here are some highlights….

first stop was cafe du monde for "the best beignets" in the world!  not going to lie, they were tasty!!  just don't inhale when you take a bite or it's powdered sugar city!

after the beignet stop we headed down Bourbon Street for some site seeing!  seriously folks… just site seeing.  right before the beignets my "midyear drinking buddy" informed me she was knocked up!!  no hurricanes for her {or me… that evening}!!!
congrats to my {former} "drinking buddy" though!
the weather was just perfect for walking around and people watching!  the smell took me right back to college!
mmm mmm gross!
let's pause and reflect that Christmas is just over TWO WEEKS AWAY!  "crazy bananas" i say!!
i did bump in to a friend from many many years ago in pharmacy school.  she was NOT knocked up and knew people in high places to feed me and drink me!
it is confirmed!!
advice from the shuttle bus driver, taxi cab driver, and one of my hubs-to-be's groomsmen:
"ONE HURRICANE IS ALL YOU NEED!"

it only cost me $26 to get them to STOP playing rocky top, eye of the tiger, and sweet home alabama!
if you have never heard "the devil went down to georgia" on the piano you are missing out.  it was well worth the 26 buck-oh's

then they lit it on fire!!
that was our sign to go ahead and go to bed!

the food has been A.MAZ.ING

 shrimp and grits topped with a little crab meat: the best i have ever ever ever had
charbroiled oysters followed by grilled gulf shrimp salad

craw fish étouffée {not pictured} was also a tasty treat to go along with my {fried} seafood platter!
Yum-Oh!!

tucking myself in early tonight to get some work done and will be happy to sleep in my own bed tomorrow!
